The Benefits of Blogging

Through watching this fifteen minute video through Teacher tv made a positive impact on me towards the use of blogs used in the school environment.

The article presented different views and perspectives through younger school children to teachers. The comments made were all positive and made fair, good points about why blogging should be used and the benefits that come within it.

I personally had no idea about how much blogging increases students’ motivation and increase participation levels. I learnt that blogging allows students from all around the world to come together and communicate their thoughts and knowledge to one another. In reference to what Rob Thompson says, using this form of technology in the classroom will benefit students’ academic levels and increase their confidence as it allows the students to become involved and learn in a fun and stimulating environment.

I would definitely use this form of technology in my teaching lessons. It enables students the opportunity to have a voice and audience when presenting their work which therefore allows them to learn and gain greater knowledge through other students.

The issue of security however did cross my mind and I believe students should not be put in the situation where they read or view something inappropriate. The importance of giving the students limits as to what information they blog is essential. To further provide security safety, Net Nanny, as suggested in this video, could be used to monitor the published work.

Overall, through listening to what the students had to say about blogging and all the benefits that arise to students academic development, has made a significant impact on my future teaching skills.
